With Francis Bacon being one of my famous artists, I got informed today that his triptych painting 'Triptych 1976' sold for a whopping $86.3 million during the week. The painting was put on auction by an 'anonymous European Collector' who has owned it since it's display in Paris in 1977. This is the highest amount ever paid for a Bacon, and demonstrates how Bacon has become one of the most influential, famous and collectible European Artist of the 20th Century.
As much as I like Bacon, I'm not too sure I'd like to spend $86.3 million on one of his considered 'masterpieces'. Then again whoever could afford to buy it for $86.3 million, obviously doesn't have money worries =P
